HERZOG: Edward Matthew Herzog of Maidstone passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the age of 74 years. Edward Matthew Herzog was born on August 3, 1937 in Wilkie, SK. Ed left home at an early age to work on the rigs in Alberta, he would come home on days off to help with seeding and harvest on his parents farm in Phippen. In 1961, Ed met his future wife, Bernice, they were introduced by her twin sisters boyfriend, in 1962 they were married in North Battleford, SK. Ed quit the rigs and started working for Searl Grain Company, in 1964 he started working for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool which moved them to places like Donegal, Thackery, North Battleford, Rex, Cloan and then Maidstone in November, 1971. They found Maidstone a great place to raise their three children. Ed enjoyed bowling and curling, he was very involved in the community taking his turn at president of the curling club and when Riley started hockey he spent many hours collecting at the gate and fundraising with the scoro board. Ed retired from the Sask Wheat Pool in 1994. For the past 10 years he worked for the RM of Eldon, he loved this job and the people he worked with. He lived to work. Ed is predeceased by: his parents, Peter and Anna. Ed leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Bernice ; his children, Karen (Cary) Gerbig, Shannon (Ken) Kerr, and Riley (Renee) Herzog; his grandchildren, Brandon, Jesse and Kendra Gerbig, Mackenzie and Carter Kerr, and Keily and Haidyn Herzog; his brother, Lloyd (Shirley) Herzog; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. We will always miss you. The Funeral Service was conducted from the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Maidstone on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Lestor Kaufmann officiating. The Urn Bearers were: Kelly & Phyllis Shreenan. The honorary bearers were: All who knew Ed. The eulogy was given by Cory Herzog and Tina Reinhart . Poem was written and read by Mackenzie Kerr and Keily Herzog. The ushers were, Ray Herzog and Sheldon Wyatt. Donations in memory of Ed can be made to the Sick Children's Hospital Building Fund in Saskatoon, SK. Interment followed in the Maidstone Community Cemetery. MARSHALL'S FUNERAL HOME LTD., St. Walburg, SK administered the funeral arrangements. To everyone who brought food, flowers and sent cards of sympathy it was deeply appreciated.
