Gladys talked a lot of her childhood and had many good memories. She lived in many different communities and it was in Mountain Park, Alberta that she met her husband. On August 31, 1946 in Mountain Park, Alberta, she married Wilfred Greenbank. His nickname for her was Glady-Lou. Their favourite saying was "Look what we started." Mom was blessed with seven children and had a mother's heart. She loved baking, cooking, and cleaning into the wee hours of the morning for her family. With 2 girls and 5 boys there are many memories of mischief. In later years, you would hear Mom say "I didn't know they did that" but always with a smile. She made their house a home. The coffee pot was always on and Mom was more than willing to drop her chores to visit with family and friends. In Mom's later years she would say "I have something funny to tell you" and there would be a story and a good laugh. She had many trials in her life but her faith and trust in Jesus Christ saw her through them all and was always eager to share her experiences with others. Gladys attended Living Faith Chapel for twenty years and became Grandma to many. She loved kids and always wanted to help out any way she could. She enjoyed volunteering at the Hands of Mercy soup kitchen and was surprised to learn someone had written about her in a monthly devotional book which we will share with you. "On occasion, I work at the local Hands of Mercy soup kitchen. When I first went in, I was introduced to all the volunteers, including a little grannie. I couldn't shake her hands because they were gnarled with the terrors of arthritis. From my perspective, working with her would not be much of a challenge. "A piece of cake," I thought. Was I ever wrong! That grannie with the horribly twisted hands worked circles around me and the other volunteers. She didn't need perfectly formed hands to do the Lord's work. With an infectious smile and a twinkle in her eye, she gave that cup of water in Jesus' name. Not only that, she gave a full course meal and cleaned the place afterward, and as they were leaving, I saw that grannie handing out extra bread as the people left the soup kitchen. As my "piece of cake" estimation crumbled, I realized she truly has the good salt in herself. It's people like that grannie who bring flavor to life and truly are living hands of mercy. Lord, use us to be salt, to spice up your world. Amen. And that she did." On September 18, 2012 she heard Wilf say "Glady-Lou, it's time." She passed away peacefully at Battlefords Union Hospital. The Funeral Service was held on September 22, 2012 at Living Faith Chapel with Pastor Allen Huckabay officiating. Interment took place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, North Battleford. Donations in Gladys's memory may be made to World Shapers c/o Living Faith Children's Department, 1371-103rd Street, North Battleford, S9A 1K9.
