GORY

GORY - In loving memory of Alexander Gory, January 14, 1930 - November 7, 2012. Alex is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; his children: RoseMarie (Russell) Cook; Clinton (Donna) Gory; Darrel (Rose Lynn) Gory, Lillian (Mervin) McGowan; Barry (Wendy) Gory; his grandchildren, Desiree Gory, Jillian (Travis) Sharko, Alysha Gory, Spenser (Kristen) McGowan, Curtis (Amanda) McGowan; and his great-grandson, Dominic Simon; his aunt, May Tuningley; his sisters, Judy McClellan, Martha Cook, Elizabeth Thompson, and Mary (Walter) Koenders; his bothers, Tom (Marie) Gory, Robert Tuningley and Joseph (Agnes) Gory; his sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Jim) Bowbyes, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Valentine and Florence Gory; his half-brother, Ben Salter; his mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Liela Burgess; and his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Alex McCullough. Alex was born January 14, 1930 on the farm near St. Walburg, SK and passed away November 7, 2012 at Turtleford, SK. As a young man he helped on the farm and also worked for neighbours. In 1950 he went to work for Ernie Burgess running cat, brushing, breaking land and building roads. Ernie had a daughter named Dorothy and in 1953 Alex and Dorothy were married. In the early years of their marriage they spent time in various places building roads and breaking land. They lived in a bunkcar with three small children during the summers and with Dorothy's parents in the winter. They later built their own house next door to her parents and added a couple more children to the family. After years of suffering with asthma whenever helping Ernie farm, he decided to buy a backhoe. His first big job was at Joe Larre's, trenching the water into Joe's house. Alex spent the next 50 years trenching miles and miles of water and sewer lines in communities including Edam, Glaslyn, Loon Lake, Turtleford, St. Walburg and many surrounding areas; digging basements, installing septic tanks, even repairing broken water lines that seem to occur only in winter at the coldest temperatures. His kids and grandkids all had the opportunity to help "in the trenches". He worked hard, but there were occasions when the family would load up the boat and all seven went fishing. Or a Sunday afternoon was spent visiting relatives. Alex met lots of people, he always found time to visit, tell a few stories and have coffee. A few years ago Alex and Dorothy bought a motorhome and headed out to visit relatives. They enjoyed this trip and planned to do it again but due to failing health it didn't happen. His last year has been busy with appointments, and stays in hospital. Through all of this he had maintained his humor and story-telling abilities. He enjoyed people coming to visit him, telling him what they were busy doing. Alex's Memorial Service was held, Monday, November 12, 2012 in the Mervin Community Hall with Speaker Bryce Smith conducting the service. Memorial donations can be made to the Village of Mervin Community Hall. Funeral arrangements were made by Marshall's Funeral Home of St. Walburg. Cards of Thanks We would like to express our appreciation to all sharing in our loss. Your prayers, deeds of kindness, and attendance at the service are all greatly appreciated. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Dan Dugula and the staff of the Riverside Health Complex in Turtleford for the care they provided to Alex during his stay. _____________________________________________________________
