BURGESS, Argie (1909 - 2013) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Argie, at the age of 104, on November 28, surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Kathy (Sam Rigakis), Angie (David Schreck); grandchildren Sylvia, Thomas (Carmen); great-grandchildren Ryan, Ava; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Many thanks to Dr. Laszlo Takats for his many years of exceptional care. Born in Mazeika, Greece, Argie and her brother Tino, orphaned very young, were raised by their grandparents. As teenagers, they were sent to Edmonton to live with their aunt and uncle. Argie is fondly remembered as the first Greek School teacher in Edmonton. In 1937, she married George and they moved to North Battleford, SK where he owned the Savoy Cafe. Summers were spent at Metinota Beach on Jackfish Lake where life-long friendships were forged. At 91, Argie moved to Edmonton where she lived with Kathy and Sam. She was an avid bridge player and knitter. A remembrance of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care would be appreciated. ____________________________________________________
