The Muenster Red Sox senior baseball team ended their season on a high note last weekend.The Western Canada Senior "AA" Championships were held in Muenster from August 12-15. The top teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan all came to Muenster to compete for the championship title. The winner of the championship was the Langley Blaze, the B.C. team."They beat Manitoba, (the Elmwood Giants), in the final six to three," said Chad Hofmann, a Muenster Red Sox player and coach."They were by far the best team there." Langley won all four of their round robin games. As the host, the Muenster Red Sox played in the championships as well. They won one of four games in the round robin."We didn't do as well as we wanted to," said Hofmann.
Muenster did quite well in the championship, considering they were the hosts, not the top Saskatchewan team."We played good enough to be competitive," said Hofmann.Muenster had great support from the community at the tournament."There were lots of people there," said Hofmann, estimatingthere were around 200 people attending each game.The championships went well, although the weather proved to be a bit of a challenge. The rain over the weekend delayed some games, said Hofmann, but they had great kids taking care of the diamond.The Red Sox were thankful for all the support from the volunteers and community for making the championships a success."Thanks to all the volunteers and everyone else," said Hofmann.The season may be over for the Senior Red Sox, but they are looking forward to next year."Hopefully next year will be better," said Hofmann, with less rain and more games played.
