The Sharks took on the Melville Prairie Fire on the weekend and something had to give, as both teams came in without a win.
Unfortunately for the Sharks, Melville was able to take two wins, both by 6-1 scores.
For the first period and half of the second Saturday, the Sharks were able to keep pace with the Prairie Fire. The first ended 0-0 and Jacy Akre stopped 15 shots in the first.
Courtney Mish broke the scoreless tie five minutes into the second for Melville.
Amanda Grainger responded for the Sharks nearly 10 minutes later when she banged in her second of the season from Tori Bonnett and Alissa McNeil.
A minute later, Melville regained the lead and never looked back.
Melville controlled the play in the final 30 minutes and outshot the Sharks 41-11 in the final two periods.
Melville was 2/5 on the powerplay while the Sharks went 0/2. Akre faced 56 shots while the Sharks fired 22 at Nicole Clay in the Melville net.
Sunday, back at Battleford Arena, it was more of the same for the Sharks, a good first period and then a battle to stay in the game later, but the Sharks did score the games first goal.
At 11:13 Jamie Fedler notched her team leading third of the season from Janaya Bourelle.
Hannah Brock stopped seven shots in the Sharks' net and after 20 minutes the home team held a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes into the second, Melville scored and rolled from that point on, as they put 26 shots at Brock in the second and third and, with two powerplay goals, earned the 6-1 win.
Brock faced 33 shots while Paige Hollinger faced 25 in the Melville net.
The Sharks' intend to work on their conditioning this week through their dry land training and on ice practices and hope to get some revenge on Melville. They head there this weekend for two games and won't play at home again until Nov. 6.
The Sharks are now 0-6-1-0 while Melville moved to 2-3-1-0.
