Just one day after a tough 42-31 loss to the Edmonton Elks, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were back at Mosaic Stadium, focusing on their upcoming game against the Ottawa Redblacks. Despite the setback against the previously winless Elks, there was a notable positive development for the Roughriders: Quarterback Trevor Harris has been cleared to practice.
In his media availability, Head Coach Corey Mace addressed concerns and reassured fans that the Roughriders’ situation is not as dire as it might seem. “The sky isn’t falling,” Mace stated, reflecting on the team's recent loss. His comments aimed to lift the team’s spirits and refocus attention on the future.
Harris, who has been recovering from a sprained knee sustained in Week 3 after a hit from Hamilton’s Nick Usher, was placed on the six-game injured list. This decision was made with the long-term health of the quarterback in mind. As the end of Harris’s six-game stint approaches, the Roughriders face a strategic decision. They could activate him early, but this would mean losing the salary cap relief gained from his time on the injured list.
When asked about the possibility of Harris being activated for Thursday’s game in Ottawa, Coach Mace remained open to the idea. “I’m not going to eliminate anything,” Mace said. “So technically, is there a chance that he could be pulled? Yes, there is a chance.”
Due to injuries the Riders have brought in two new faces including American defensive lineman Eric Black and Canadian offensive lineman Braydon Knoll.
As the Roughriders prepare for their Thursday 5:30 p.m. CT kickoff against the Redblacks, the potential return of Harris could provide a significant boost.
