NORTH BATTLEFORD - The Battlefords North Stars wrapped up their preseason schedule on the weekend with a home and home against the Nipawin Hawks.
On Friday night the North stars had their final home game of the preseason against the Hawks losing 5 to 4. The North Star's opened the scoring with a goal from Ryder Kenyon in the first, but the Hawks then scored three unanswered goals.
A breakaway goal from Zane Florence made it 3-2 early in the third. But a power play goal from Andrew Schaab restored the two goal lead.
Jake Â鶹ÊÓƵgate cut the margin to 4-3 before Phil Laberge restored the two goal lead. Â鶹ÊÓƵgate added a second goal to cut it to 5-4 with under two minutes remaining, but that was all the scoring.
Chase Hamm got the win in net for the Hawks. Micheal O'Sullivan and Ulrik Roussel split duties in net for the NorthStars. The Hawks out shot the North Star's 26 to 25 on the night.
The North Stars' final game was on Saturday night in Nipawin, where the Hawks prevailed 5-2. Nipawin took a 3-0 lead before Ethan Scriven and Emmit Wurst responded for the North Stars. But the Hawks added two goals to seal the win. Cole Beamin had two goals and an assist for Nipawin on the night.
The North Stars finish the preseason with four wins, two losses and one shootout loss to close the preseason.
Next up for the North Stars is the regular season as they host their arch rivals, the Kindersley Klippers, in the regular season opener on Friday night at Access Communications Centre.
