There was rain, but it didn't drown out any games.Muenster hosted the Pee Wee A2 Provincial baseball tournament July 16-18, which attracted nine teams from across the province.Competing for the title of provincial champions were the Muenster Red Sox, Middle Lake Eagles, Wynyard Blues, Strasbourg Wild, Macklin Lakers, Unity Cardinals, Lumsden Cubs, Porcupine Plain North Stars and the Carlyle Cardinals. In the end, it was the Porcupine Plain North Stars who came out on top, beating out Macklin 13-2 in the gold medal final. That gold medal game rounded out a weekend of fantastic baseball, indicated Troy Anderson, one of the organizers of the tournament and the head coach of the Muenster Pee Wee Red Sox.

"It was a great tournament," he said. "Good ball."In total, 19 games of ball were played over the three days. Muenster's Pee Wee team did well, Muenster won their first game 12-5 over Middle Lake, and their second 13-6 over Carlyle. Unfortunately, Muenster lost their final round-robin game to Porcupine Plain 9-1, which took them out of the running for the gold medal game."That put us into a peck of trouble," Anderson smiled.Muenster was in a very strong pool, he added, and he feels that the best team won the entire tournament."They were fantastic," he said of Porcupine Plain.Middle Lake's team also did very well in the tournament, just about making it to the gold medal final, as well. Though they lost their first game to Muenster, they won their second game 10-9 over Carlyle, and an elimination game over Strasbourg on Saturday 14-4.However, Middle Lake was eliminated from the competition as the result of a 18-11 loss to Macklin on Sunday. The weather didn't play too much havoc with the tournament, either. Though a thunderstorm struck on Friday night, it didn't cancel any games. They had to move some shale around after the heavy rain, Anderson noted, which delayed Saturday's start by about an hour. However, by the end of the day, they were actually ahead of schedule, he said.
