He's a small-town boy that's made it. Now, he's trying to help kids achieve their dreams.Rusty Malinoski, formerly of Humboldt and now of Florida, was in Saskatoon on the weekend to take part in Wakeride 2010.The wake boarding event was held for the second year and Malinoski was happy to be part of it."This is amazing," said Malinoski. "This is a cool event and a good cause."Wakeride raised approximately $60,000 last year, all for local charities. This year's event was raising money for KidSport, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Raise a Reader, Yoga for Youth, the Saskatoon Firefighters Pediatric Unit, and the White Buffalo Youth Lodge.Malinoski also appreciates the opportunity to come back to where he got his start."I don't get to Canada much, so it's great to be able to come back close to where I grew up," he explained. "I get to see tons of people I grew up with and just hang out and visit."It's also nice to get back when it's not -30 out."Malinoski skipped a competitive event to come to Saskatoon with some of his wakeboarding friends and competitors to show off their skills."This is just fun for us," he explained. "It's good to have one event where we don't have the pressure."Malinoski has made a spot for himself in the competitive wakeboarding world, winning events and titles. He's competed in four events so far this season and has finished on the podium in three of those."Everything is going really good so far," he said.Meanwhile, Malinoski is just happy to be putting on a show."I'm pumped to be back in Saskatoon," he said. The river was running high and rough, but that just meant some of the harder tricks were put on the shelf, Malinoski noted.
