At the half way point of the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League season two teams have hit the 10-win mark and are tied for first place.
The Maidstone Jets led by Ryan Johnston and Brett Harrison, the third and fourth top point producers in the league, are 10-1-0. The St. Walburg Eagles are 10-3-0 and are led offensively by Aaron Goldade and Darren Delainey, the top two point producers this season.
The Jets won twice last week, as they had a home-and-home with Edam.
Friday the Jets won 8-6 with Dustin MacDonald earning the win and Quinton Gauthier taking the loss. Jason Roberts had a hat trick and an assist while Harrison had two goals and two assists and Johnston had a goal and two assists. The Jets other goal scorers were Ben Schwartz and Marc Thomarat.
Brett Jullion and Ryan Roach scored two goals each for Edam, while Martin Smith and Joel Budd added singles.
The next night, the Jets had just nine skaters, but it appeared to be the right nine, as they won 4-3 after scoring three goals in the third period.
Harrison, Roberts, Kent Sayers and Quinton Blanchette scored for Maidstone while the Edam offence came from Roach, Jullion and Brendan Weitzel. The Three Stars dropped to 2-8-1 this season.
The other 10-win team, finished 1-1 on the weekend. First the Eagles dominated the Paradise Hill Hawks with a 15-3 win. Goldade had seven points, Delainey had five, Jordan Fuder and Sheldon Williamson had four, Kevin Nasby and Taylor Thiessen had three each, Riley Brand, Duane Larre, Mark Persick and Zach Wourms all had two points. Shayne Fenton also found the back of the net for St. Walburg.
Joe Sloman, Brad Naeth and Keith McClellan scored for the Hawks beating Kristian Sawyshyn, who earned the win.
The Eagles played the Spiritwood Timberwolves Saturday, and the Timberwolves earned the 6-5 win. There were 10 different goal scorers in the game with Fuder being the only player to net two goals.
Kendall Gaboury scored the game-winning goal for the Timberwolves while Ryan Turgeon led the offence with three points. Gaboury, Kyle Brataschuk, Shane Gopher and Trevin Hujber all had a goal and an assist with Marty Lehouillier earning the win for Spiritwood.
Bryan Bridges suffered the loss after surrendering three goals in 20 minutes. Trevor Novak allowed three goals against in 40 minutes in the Eagles' net.
Friday, Spiritwood beat Meadow Lake 6-2 thanks to six different goal scorers and another solid effort from Lehouillier. Meadow Lake sits at 2-7-0.
Spiritwood made it a perfect 3-0-0 weekend, as they also beat Paradise Hill Sunday by a 10-2 score. Fifteen of the 16 Timberwolves' skaters had at least a point with Brataschuk, Ryan Turgeon and Jesse Burt each recording four points.
The Timberwolves are 7-4-1 this season while the Hawks are 1-11-0.
The other score from the weekend had Wilkie win 6-3 in Turtleford. Nick Pernitsky out duelled Chad Therres between the pipes and Wilkie improved to 9-4-0.
Rick Cey, Mark Lorenz, Brett Schell, Barrett Penner, Mike Sittler and Ryan Scheafer scored for the Outlaws.
The Tigers' goals came from Tyler Karst, who had two, and Luke Zbaraschuk. The Tigers are 6-7-0 this season.
There are eight games on the league schedule for this week with all eight team in action Saturday.
