The autumn sun gleamed off the horses and sparkled in the eyes of the riders as Hillside Acres hosted a hunter/jumper horse show Saturday.

Riders from the Hillside Acres riding school were joined by participants from Lloydminster, Marshall, Lashburn and Saskatoon for the event. The school usually hosts a show-off day, but decided to host their first hunter/jumper show in years and organizers were pleased with the results, learned a lot and hope to host another event next year.

Katrina Williams, a high level rider at Ebon Stables in Saskatoon judged the events including hunter, jumper, fun, costume and first year classes. Sponsors donated door prizes and ribbons were awarded in the various classes. A canteen was set up on site by the Harmony Equestrian Club to raise money for their clinics and events. The sport attracts a wide range of ages from and this show attracted mostly female riders.

The morning began with the hunter classes offering more natural looking fences and a flowing course. The afternoon offered the jumper classes at increasing heights with more colourful numbered jumps, sharper turns and a narrow margin of time in order to complete the course. The course was measured at 58 to 68 seconds and several riders earned ribbons for their runs.

After the jumper classes action moved from the lower arena into the smaller arena on the hill the youngest riders showed their horses and their riding skills. The day ended with the fun of a costume class and egg races.
