HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Collegiate Institute boys' soccer team opened its season with a victory.

HCI beat Wynyard, 3-1. The team’s previously scheduled match against Cudworth was postponed.

“We were most pleased with the excitement on the bench and the positive team atmosphere,” coach Nicole Unrau said of the team’s opening performance. “The athletes were excited to be out playing. Our strengths include our keeper, who made some big saves early on and kept us in the game, and our leadership from our more experienced players.”

Senior Girls Volleyball

In North Battleford last weekend, the HCI senior girls' volleyball team earned first place in its pool on Friday. After three contests that coach Jarrod Regush described as “some pretty tough fought games”, the team’s record was four sets to two.

On Saturday, HCI suffered two tough losses. A victory over Wakaw allowed the team to place seventh out of 16 teams.

“It was a weekend of learning and character building,” Regush said.

HCI’s next tournament will be its home event Oct. 1-2.
