THE BATTLEFORDS - Here is a preview of what is happening with the prominent Battlefords' hockey teams this weekend in action.
The Battlefords North Stars are in the midst of a three-game road swing through the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast this weekend.
The trip kicked off in Wilcox Thursday night, against the Notre Dame Hounds, and as usual it turned out to be a bar burner of a game that required overtime to settle it.
It was a late goal by Steven Kesslering with 45 seconds left in regulation that forced the overtime period. Then, a power-play goal by Zane Florence ended it at 2:19 of overtime, with assists from Holden Doell and Tynan Ewart.
The win in Wilcox pushes the North Stars' winning streak to six in a row. They hope to keep it going Friday night at 7:30 p.m., when the North Stars are in Estevan to play the Bruins. They are in Weyburn Saturday night, also at 7:30 p.m. that night.
In male U18 hockey, the Battlefords AAA Stars are home Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to the Regina Pat Canadians, and they host them again Sunday at 2 p.m., with both games at Access Communications Centre. The Stars are hoping to rebound after a humbling 10-0 defeat to the Saskatoon Blazers on Wednesday at home.
In female U18 hockey at Battleford Arena, the Battlefords AAA Sharks face the Weyburn Gold Wings Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and again Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Battleford. The Sharks are coming off a 4-2 home defeat to Saskatoon, a game which snapped the Sharks' four-game winning streak.
The Northwest AA Stars host the Saskatoon Sabercats Saturday at 4:15 p.m., and Martensville Marauders Sunday at 5:15 p.m. with both games at Access Communications Centre. The Stars have an 8-6-0-0 record this season.
In senior hockey there are four games in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League beginning Friday night. Friday games see Meota Combines host Maidstone Jets at 8 p.m. in North Battleford; the Battleford Beaver Blues host Radisson Wheatkings at 8:30 p.m. at Battleford Arena; and Turtleford Tigers host Perdue Pirates.
On Saturday night, the Spiritwood Timberwolves host the Meota Combines.
