The Edam History Book, ”Their Hopes-Our Heritage”, [1992] records that, “Baseball was a very prominent sport in the district of Edam, dating back to the late teens and early 1920s up to the present.” It wasn’t until the 1960s that minor baseball began in the province and Edam won many championships.
In 1974, the Edam Blue Sox joined the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League. With the addition of Bob Faith and Curt Pylypow from out of town to the Blue Sox strong core from Edam, the team had an excellent run at success stating in 1985, winning the 1986 NSRBL championship defeating Standard Hill, Wilkie and the North Battleford Beavers in the finals. In 1987 they won the Provincial ”C” championship with a victory over Wawota Royals. It was the outstanding pitching performance of Bob Faith that propelled the Sox to a 6-2 victory on a rainy Sunday afternoon for Edam’s first ever provincial senior championship!
The 1989 season was Edam’s best regular season as they finished 13-2, but lost to a good squad in the league final. The following season was a rebuilding year however, the team defeated Wilkie in the league final.
The 1990 and 1991 seasons proved successful but the Blue Sox again came up short in the league to the powerful Wilkie Brewers. The Sox also lost both provincial finals in both years to Lumsden Cubs.
In 1993 the Blue Sox defeated Lockwood Braves in the Provincial Braves Provincial “C” finals. The second game in Lockwood was decided in the 14th inning to give Edam their second provincial championship.
In 1994 the Blue Sox lost the league championship to the Mervin Flyers.
All the players on this team were dedicated throughout this 10-year span.
