There were three draws Thursday and in the morning draw the top four seeds all played in the A-event quarter-finals and all advanced to meet in the semi final at 7 p.m.

To qualify for the semi final, the Simmons rink had to go through Brian Humble and his team from the Saskatoon Sutherland Curling Club.

The game was close until Simmons scored two in the seventh, blanked the eighth and scored three in the ninth taking an 8-3 decision.

The fourth seeded Carl deConinck Smith advanced to play Simmons after winning 6-4 over Mark Herbert.

Scott Bitz also won to advance to the semi final after winning 7-1 over Dean Moulding. After blanking the first two ends it was all Bitz, as they capped it off with a three-point sixth and a single in the seventh leading to early handshakes.

Randy Bryden also advanced to an A semi final after beating Brent Gedak. Bryden trailed 3-2 after six ends, but after back-to-back deuces he earned the 7-3 win giving him a place in the A semi final.

The Humble, Herbert, Moulding and Gedak rinks all dropped to the B-event and after the 3 p.m. draw they learned who their opponents for the Thursday evening and Friday morning draws would be.

Fast forwarding to the final draw of the day and when all the rocks were thrown, the two teams left standing at 3-0 were Bitz and deConinck Smith.

Bitz scored two in the first, third and eighth and ran Bryden out of rocks winning 8-5.

Bryden drops down to face Camm at noon Friday in the B-event.

Simmons was defeated 7-6 by deConinck Smith. The Rosetown skip had to draw and get part of the four foot against two with his final rock to advance to the A final and used the Simmons rock as backing.

Bitz and deConinck Smith will battle for the first qualifying spot in the A final at noon Friday.

During the 3 p.m. draw, Jamey Jordison's Moose Jaw rink lost their second straight, as Darren Camm scored two in the first, one in the second, two in the third and four in the fifth to take a 9-1 decision.

Camm advanced to play Herbert in the 7 p.m. draw and it was a tight game tied 3-3 after eight ends. In the ninth, Camm scored three and ran Herbert out of rocks earning the 6-3 win. Camm moved the B-event quarter-finals.

Also at 3 p.m., Brad Law advanced over Derek Gaudreau in a game, which featured only single point ends and a blanked seventh end for the 5-4 win.

Law took on Gedak in the 7 p.m. draw making it back-to-back games for the Regina Tartan club. Law chipped away with six singles and came away with the 6-3 victory. The winning team from Regina will be in action Friday at noon.

Mark Lane also moved forward in the B-event after beating Mike Eberle 7-0 in six ends.

Lane advanced to play Team Humble at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The other B-event, 8 a.m. draw, will feature Team Moulding and Team Joyce after Joyce used his final rock to draw for two points and the 8-7 win against Terry Marteniuk.

Team Marteniuk, who have now lost both games on the final rock, will be in a do-or-die situation, as they face Gaudreau at 8 a.m. Friday.

The Eberle and Jordison rinks will face off in the other C-event game at 8 a.m. Friday.
