PRINCE ALBERT – A woman wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested Monday night and made her first appearance in court Tuesday, and was granted bail.

Patricia Lee Sewap, 39, was wanted for being unlawfully at large after being released on a statutory release condition. Statutory release means that an offender has been released from a federal penitentiary after serving two-thirds of his/her prison sentence. Prisoners are sent to federal penitentiaries for sentences of two years or more. For sentences two years less a day, or less, prisoners serve their time in a provincial jail.

Sewap was arrested after police were called to a disturbance at a business in the 200 block of 15 Street west just before 7 p.m. on Monday night. Prince Albert Police say that a man allegedly threatened another man saying he had a gun.

Police located the man who matched the description travelling on a bike with a woman headed west on 15 Street. They tried fleeing but were arrested without incident by police.

During their investigation police discovered that Sewap had an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for breaching her statutory release conditions.

Police also found a loaded sawed-off shotgun and charged 30-year-old Kelsey Lee Stewart of Prince Albert with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a loaded firearm, and altering the serial number on a firearm.

Stewart appeared in court on Tuesday and Wednesday and is scheduled to appear again on Friday for a show cause hearing.

Sewap appears in court next on Oct. 12 to enter a plea.
