THE BATTLEFORDS — As summer is underway, it’s time to get out and explore what North Battleford has to offer.

Kidsfest

The free children’s festival will happen Saturday afternoon at Library Park. With a variety of activities planned for families such as arts, drumming, music, juggling, clowns and more, there is plenty to do. The festival is expected to run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event is being sponsored by the Baha’i Community of North Battleford.

Saskatchewan's Free Fishing Weekend

Whether you are an avid fisher or looking for your first experience, it’s time to take advantage of Saskatchewan’s Free Fishing Weekend. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take to any public water open to public fishing. Nearly 70 species of fish are native to Saskatchewan, including 21 different sport fishing species, such as pike, trout, and walleye. No license is required, unless there is a plan to take the fish out of the province. Please note that angling limits and all other fishing regulations still apply. For more information, visit saskatchewan.ca/fishing.

Sunday Afternoon Jam

Come in, make music, dance, listen, and enjoy. Pioneer Hall (792-101st Street, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Railway Avenue) plays host to a Sunday afternoon Jam from 1 to 4 p.m. Coffee and tea is available. Donations at the door are welcome.

Going for Baroque

North Battleford’s Cole Knuston returns to the city alongside Canada’s newest saxophone duo, Matthew Robinson and Chinley Hinacay on July 10. The recital, which takes place at 2 p.m. at Third Avenue United Church, is an opportunity to experience high-level classical music right here in your own backyard. General admission for the shows starts at $20 with discounted rates for university students and free admission for youths under 18. All proceeds from this tour will go towards PSI’s annual composition project where Canadian composers of underrepresented groups are commissioned to write a substantial work for two saxophones.
