Expansion of Water Treatment Plant No. 1 is going well so far, according to City of North Battleford officials.
Tuesday the City's public works director, Stewart Schafer, said the project is on track to be completed in time for the March 2011 funding deadline set by the federal government.
In a media statement Schafer said, "construction has experienced some delay due to the rainy summer.
"Right now work is about four weeks behind schedule because of the weather but overall, the project is going well and I am confident it will be complete by the end of March."
The federal government has committed one-third, or $2.3 million, to the expansion project, which is also being funded one-third by the province and the rest - also about one-third - by the City. The project's cost was estimated at $6.9 million.
At Monday night's council meeting Schafer updated councillors on the project in response to a question by Councillor Ron Crush.
"The water treatment plant expansion is going at great guns," said Schafer. "The concrete work is almost out and finished; they have a little bit more." Schafer adds the clarifiers have turned up on site as well.
The actual building expansion will be 528 square meters, with the treatment expansion increasing by 218 cubic meters per hour. Once the water treatment expansion is complete the total will increase to 381.5 cubic meters per hour.
The City stated Tuesday it is expecting Miners Construction to begin to install the four flocculators and two clarifiers - pieces of equipment that mix and settle the water treatment chemicals. It is also expected that commission testing will take place over the last two weeks of March 2011.
