RCMP report that an arrest has been made in relation to the death of Cindy MacKay of Meota, SK.Ìý
Her husband, Michael MacKay (born May 5, 1982) was arrested Thursday. He is charged with one count of first degree murder of Cindy MacKay. His first appearance in court is scheduled for Friday, March 19 at North Battleford provincial court.
According to police, on Feb. 7 Cindy MacKay was transported to hospital in medical distress. She died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020.Ìý Police said in their release that after her death, health care professionals raised concerns to the detachment which prompted an investigation. A correction was issued Friday stating the concerns were raised during her hospitalization, prior to her death, not afterwards.
The arrest was as a result of a complex investigation conducted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit North and the RCMP Historical Case Unit North, the Battlefords RCMP Detachment, the Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section, and RCMP Forensic Identification Section. Michael MacKay was arrested Thursday in Warman, Saskatchewan; his first court appearance in the case will be by telephone.
