Two men accused of killing Braden Bull appear in Lloydminster court

Two men charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Braden Richard Bull of Little Pine First Nation appeared in Lloydminster court Dec. 2 and their matters were adjourned.

Two men charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Braden Richard Bull of Little Pine First Nation appeared in Lloydminster court Dec. 2 and their matters were adjourned.

Twenty-four-year-old Vega Bear was arrested in September and twenty-six-year-old Branden Dillon was arrested in October.

Bull鈥檚 body was found near a highway on Onion Lake Cree Nation Jan. 21, 2020. Bull was last seen on Jan. 7 and he was reported missing on Jan. 20.

Bull鈥檚 death was one of three murders in a span of two months that prompted Onion Lake Cree Nation to declare a state of emergency.

Conrad Mooswa鈥檚 body was found Oct. 23, 2019, at a residence on Onion Lake Cree Nation.听Marvin Stanley was arrested in October 2019 and charged with second-decree murder.

Braeden Sparvier鈥檚 body was found Jan. 1, 2020, along a road in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte, which borders Onion Lake Cree Nation. Shari Heathen, 27, was arrested in July and charged with second-degree murder.

鈥淭he Nation has now experienced three deaths directly related to drugs and gang activity within the last two months, along with numerous high speed chases and violent crimes,鈥 said Onion Lake Cree Nation when declaring a state of emergency Jan. 24, 2020.

Onion Lake Cree Nation borders the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan and is located about 50 kilometres north of Lloydminster.

Bear and Dillon remain in custody. They are both scheduled to appear next in Lloydminster Provincial Court Jan. 6, 2021, to speak to their matters.
