Turtleford RCMP arrest man breaching court-ordered curfew

On July 9, RCMP received a report that a man had tampered with an electronic device monitoring his court-ordered 24-hour curfew.

TURTLEFORD - Turtleford RCMP have arrested a man reported to have breached a court-ordered 24-hour curfew. 

On July 9, RCMP received a report that a man had tampered with an electronic device monitoring his court-ordered 24-hour curfew.

He was previously released in the community on conditions, as he awaits the court process for a May 11 aggravated assault charge in North Battleford.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) began working to locate him.

After investigating, police determined the individual was in a home on Thunderchild First Nation. On July 11, officers from CRT and Turtleford detachment obtained a warrant and approached the home. The occupants refused to exit it.

With assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, officers arrested seven people. Four were released without charges.

One of the individuals arrested was the man CRT was searching for. Donnie Okanee, 29, from Thunderchild First Nation, is charged with resist arrest and fail to comply with a release order.

In relation to a July 10 incident on Thunderchild First Nation, he was also charged with assault; and uttering threats..

Also facing charges are Tariq Nicotine, 25, from Thunderchild First Nation who is charged with resist arrest. Nicotine was also arrested on seven outstanding warrants from Turtleford and North Battleford RCMP.

Logan Jimmy, 27, from Thunderchild First Nation, is charged with resist arrest and fail to comply with a release order.

Jimmy was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.

The three accused appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court July 12.
