SASKATOON - Three people were arrested after a firearm was found inside a vehicle during a traffic stop in Saskatoon.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 17, officers patrolling in the area of 30th Street West and Avenue H North conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was not displaying a licence plate.

As officers approached the vehicle they observed three adults and two youth inside.

Upon speaking with the occupants, officers could smell beverage alcohol emitting from the vehicle. As the occupants were exiting the vehicle, officers observed multiple bottles of open alcohol and a modified rifle with what was later determined to be a loaded prohibited magazine on the floor in the rear seat. Continued investigation led officers to locating and seizing several rounds of assorted ammunition, various quantities of different drugs, multiple mobile phones, and a small quantity of cash.

As a result, a 29-year-old woman and 39-year-old man are facing a combination of firearms- and drug-trafficking-related charges. In addition, a 22-year-old man was arrested on outstanding warrants. The youth were transferred into the care of crisis workers.
