Teen accused of killing woman who worked for La Ronge RCMP and Sask. Health appears in court

Jennifer Hendry was well-known in the communities of Air Ronge and La Ronge where she lived for almost 20 years and worked as an instructor at Northlands College, and more recently with the La Ronge RCMP and Sask. Health.

LA RONGE – A male teen accused of killing 46-year-old Jennifer Hendry during a home invasion Jan. 8 in Air Ronge had an appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court.

The youth, who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was remanded in custody at his April 25 appearance and is scheduled to appear again May 16.

Hendry was well-known in the communities of Air Ronge and La Ronge where she lived for almost 20 years, first as an instructor at Northlands College, and more recently with the La Ronge RCMP and Saskatchewan Health Authority, according to her obituary.

“Many people benefitted from gifts of her baking, beautiful quilts, or technical skills over the years,” reads her obituary. “However, she will be missed most for her ability to know what other people needed and her willingness to be there to provide it.”

Hendry grew up in the Northwest Territories and loved nature and the environment. She enjoyed many outdoor adventures with family and friends, says her obituary that also states she died during a home invasion.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigated Hendry’s murder that occurred at her home on Waco Drive in Air Ronge. They released a picture and video of a suspect and asked the public’s help identifying him. Four days later they arrested the youth.

The RCMP also asked people to check their properties to see if they had been a victim of any property crimes. The teen, who is from the La Ronge area, was also charged with robbery.

Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Section, Saskatoon General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, Technological Crimes Unit and Police Dog Service assisted La Ronge RCMP in the investigation.
