SASKATOON - A 45-year-old Arborfield man and a 21-year-old Prince Albert woman are facing charges following an incident in which the driver of a vehicle refused to stop for police early this morning.
At approximately 2 a.m, Sept. 3, a patrol officer noticed a white Hyundai being driven in an erratic manner in the area of 22nd Street and Circle Drive. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the driver refused to stop and proceeded through red lights onto Laurier Drive and Confederation Drive.
The officer deactivated his emergency equipment due to public safety concerns.
Members of the Air Support Unit were then able to monitor the vehicle from the air. The Hyundai proceeded out of the city on Highway 14 before circling back and turning north, making its way to Highway 12.
Ground units were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device, after which the vehicle turned off the highway and was abandoned at Township Road 3050 and Range Road 392.
The male and female occupants then fled and were spotted dropping objects before attempting to hide in a field. They were brought into custody without incident.
A search resulted in officers locating approximately 450 grams of methamphetamine and 50 grams of cocaine.
The male is facing charges including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine and Dangerous Driving. The woman is facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine.
They were expected to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Friday afternoon.
