Saskatchewan RCMP are reporting that Saskatoon Police Service have been requested to conduct an investigation into a sudden of a 30-year old female in custody in North Battleford.
According to the RCMP, on March 24 at 4:34 p.m. North Battleford RCMP arrested without incident the female in relation to an ongoing investigation. After she was transported to Battlefords RCMP Detachment, officers determined she required medical care.Â
She was transported to Battlefords Union Hospital at 7:15 p.m. At 10:00 p.m. the RCMP officer accompanying her observed she was in medical distress. The officer immediately began lifesaving efforts and called for assistance from hospital medical staff. The female was pronounced dead at around 10:30 p.m.
Saskatoon Police have been called in to investigate as per the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy; Saskatchewan Health Authority is also conducting a review of the incident.
In addition, the RCMP have requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.
No further information can be made available at this time, and the name of the deceased is not being released at this time. Her family has been notified and Victim Services have been made available.
