Update: Spiritwood RCMP make arrest in suspicious death

A 54-year-old man from Golden, B.C., is deceased.

PELICAN LAKE FIRST NATION - On Sept. 17, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Spiritwood RCMP received a report of a deceased adult male located at a residence on Pelican Lake First Nation.

Officers and EMS responded. A 54-year-old man from Golden, B.C. was declared deceased at the scene. His family has been notified.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North is investigating with the assistance of Spiritwood RCMP and the Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section. As a result of investigation, Walter Jack Abbott, 61, of Pelican Lake First Nation was arrested on Sept. 17. He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code. The victim and the accused are known to one another.

Abbott was to make his first court appearance on Sept. 20 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
