SaskTel says it is moving beyond the province’s larger centres, to begin improving connectivity in rural communities and important highway corridors.

REGINA – Cut Knife is on the latest list of 5G network expansion undertaken by SaskTel.

SaskTel has announced delivery of hyper-fast data speeds offered through the 5G network to Cut Knife in the Northwest, as well as to Crooked River, Quill Lake and a rural area northeast of Hanley.

To date, SaskTel’s deployment of 5G has been focused on bringing service to Saskatchewan’s largest centres. With the rollout of 5G to these communities and areas, SaskTel has begun an important phase in its 5G program which will provide improved connectivity for rural communities and important highway corridors throughout Saskatchewan, according to a press release.

“Keeping people connected with the latest technologies is critical to everything we do at SaskTel,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO. “With our 5G network we’re able to deliver an enhanced wireless experience that will ensure our customers can continue to connect to what matters to them, today and well into the future.”

Powered by Samsung, SaskTel’s 5G network can reach speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) allowing customers to connect faster than ever before, the press release states. SaskTel says future benefits of the network, once fully deployed, will include high capacity and ultra-low latency, enabling new use cases for wireless technology.

SaskTel says the continued expansion of its 5G network is a result of a commitment to invest more than $1.5 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. These investments will ensure Saskatchewan families and businesses continue to have access to some of the best communication and entertainment services available anywhere in the world, their press release states.
