Update: RCMP arrest youth in Air Ronge murder case

RCMP are not seeking other suspects with regards to the homicide of Jennifer Hendry.

AIR RONGE — Update Jan. 13: On Jan. 12, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested a male teen in connection to the investigation into the homicide of Jennifer Hendry of Air Ronge.

RCMP say at this time investigators do not believe the accused and victim knew one another. They are not seeking other suspects with regards to this investigation.

The teen, who is from the La Ronge RCMP detachment area, is charged with:

1 count, first degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code.

1 count, robbery, Section 344(1)(b), Criminal Code

RCMP cannot name the teen or provide further details including age as it could identify him, which is prohibited under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He has appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on Jan. 27.

“Information received from community members was pivotal to this investigation,” says Insp. Joshua Graham of the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit. “This incident has left Jennifer’s loved ones – and the Air Ronge area – grieving. We’re grateful the community was willing to assist our investigators, who have been working tirelessly on this case and have now arrested and charged the person believed to be responsible.”

Saskatchewan RCMP’s La Ronge Detachment, Prince Albert General Investigation Section, Saskatoon General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Section, Technological Crimes Unit and Police Dog Service assisted in this investigation.

The individual in the photo/video RCMP released on Jan. 10 to assist this investigation has been identified.

Background Dec. 10: Investigators are looking for a person who may be able to help them with a homicide in Air Ronge.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit continues to investigate a homicide that occurred at a residence on Waco Drive in Air Ronge on Jan. 8. The victim, who was the occupant of that residence, has been identified as 46-year-old Jennifer Hendry of Air Ronge.

Investigators are now asking for the public’s assistance:

Please look at the attached picture and video, available at . They show an individual that investigators would like to identify and speak with, as they may have information important to this investigation. If you recognize the person in the photo/video, please contact the La Ronge RCMP.

Anyone in the greater La Ronge area that has a video surveillance system is asked to check footage from the evening of Jan. 7 to the morning of Jan. 8. If the same individual shown in the photo/video is present in any captured video footage you have – please contact the La Ronge RCMP.

Investigators continue to ask that people with property in the area check to determine if they have been the victim of a property crime. Residents in the area are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the La Ronge RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
