LLOYDMINSTER – Following the officer-involved shooting in Waseca Saturday that left one man dead and an officer injured, RCMP charged several people and seized firearms, ammunition, body armour, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, GHB, and two stolen vehicles.
In October 2021, the Battleford RCMP Gang Task Force began an investigation into drug and weapons trafficking in west-central Saskatchewan. This investigation led to the execution of three search warrants on Feb. 26 – two in Lloydminster and one in Waseca.
As a result of the search warrant executed at the industrial building in Waseca, three people were arrested. Odell Angus, 20, was arrested on warrants from Turtleford RCMP. Police say that the RCMP Gang Task Force investigation is ongoing and no further information, including the name of the other two individuals arrested, can be provided at this time.
After search warrants were executed in Lloydminster, Laquita Angus, 25, and Delaney Angus, 18, were arrested.
Laquita Angus was charged with possession of Cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon, and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
Delaney Angus was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction of a peace officer, and failing to comply with a release order.
Delaney Angus and Laquita Angus appear next in Lloydminster court on March 3 and March 14 respectively.
Man shot, killed in Waseca
Gunfire broke out Saturday when RCMP raided a commercial building in Waseca along Highway 16. Waseca is a tiny village of about 154 people approximately 42 kilometres east of Lloydminster. The RCMP have not released the name of the 33-year-old Lloydminster man who was shot and killed by police.
During the police raid, two men and a woman exited the building and were arrested but a fourth person stayed inside and refused to comply with police commands. Police say that when he exited the building he refused to comply and had a firearm. That’s when gunfire erupted and the man was shot and killed. The RCMP officer had a non life-threatening injury.
Through forensic investigation, Saskatoon Police Service has determined the injured Saskatchewan RCMP officer was struck in the head by a bullet. As previously mentioned, the officer was treated in hospital and their injuries are considered non-life-threatening. Police say they are unable to provide additional details or updates on their condition.
The police officer is a member of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and was, along with other members of the Critical Incident Response Team, assisting with the search warrant at the commercial property in Waseca.
Saskatchewan RCMP say their thoughts continue to be with the family of the deceased man, as well as with their injured police officer as they recover.
According to police, Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force conducted a four-month investigation into drug and weapons trafficking in west-central Saskatchewan. Police say that cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and firearms were being trafficked in and around North Battleford.
