RCMP make arrest in homicide case on Black Lake First Nation

BLACK LAKE FIRST NATION — On Dec. 16, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit officers arrested a male in relation to a suspicious sudden death investigation.

The victim has been identified as Arley Cook of Black Lake First Nation and his death is considered a homicide.

Jerrick Stalthanee, 21, of Black Lake First Nation has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

His next court date is via video on Jan.17, 2022 in La Ronge Provincial Court.

On Dec. 14 at approximately 9:10 a.m., Black Lake RCMP received a report of a suspicious death on Black Lake First Nation. Officers located a deceased 27-year-old male at a residence.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit undertook the investigation with the assistance of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Black Lake First Nation is located in Northern Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin region.
