RCMP in Colonsay continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Victor Mateyshin, a 84-year-old male from the community of Dana, SK.
Mateyshin was reported missing on September 22.
He is described as Caucasian, 5'9" tall, weighing 180 pounds, with blue eyes, grey hair and glasses. He is normally clean shaven and resides near Dana.
He was last seen on September 16 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. approximately 10 miles north of Dana. He was wearing a tan jacket with blue jeans.
When he was last spotted, he was alone and operating his vehicle, a 2005 four-door white Ford Crown Victoria with Saskatchewan licence plate 432HJQ
Mateyshin was reported to be in good health with no known illnesses This disappearance was reportedly extremely out of character for him.
Family, friends and police across the province have been actively searching for him since he was reported missing.
On September 24, RCMP Air Services out of Regina got actively involved in the search. The aerial search attempted to follow his last known path of travel, which was believed to on the Bremen grid road, north of Dana. A local pilot who knows Mateyshin also flew his own plane in hopes of locating the vehicle and/or Mateyshin.
But those efforts were unsuccessful.
RCMP then asked rural land owners from Wakaw to Humboldt, and specifically the Dana and Bruno areas, to check their property, including abandoned areas, trails, bluffs of trees and any other areas that might not be visible from the road for Mateyshin or his vehicle.
Volunteer searchers from Dana have also assisted in the search as they recently searched a slough south of Bruno with negative results.
Flyers containing descriptions of Mateyshin and his vehicle have been handed out by friends and family. Devastated by his disappearance, Mateyshin's loved ones have also appealed to the media for help.
RCMP continue to follow up on leads and tips that have been generated by the public, and has asked members at detachments in Lanigan, Prince Albert, Wakaw, and Humboldt to actively assist in the investigation.
At the moment, the Prince Albert RCMP are assisting in confirming a possible sighting of Mateyshin on Sept. 18 at the Prince Albert Wal-Mart.
The sighting has not been confirmed by police at this time and this would have occurred before Mateyshin was reported missing to police.
RCMP have released a surveillance photo of the Wal-Mart entrance in Prince Albert. Although one would be unable to identify Mateyshin from the photo, RCMP are hoping it may generate further tips regarding Victor's disappearance.
The public should also note that Mateyshin walked with a distinct limp in an almost side to side swaying motion.
