HUMBOLDT — A radiothon held to help the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation raised more than $41,000 for vital hospital equipment.

The four-day Equip to Care Radiothon, done by the foundation in conjunction with 107.5 Bolt FM starting on April 12, saw $41,445 raised at the end of the day April 15 – with more money still coming in.

“People of all ages throughout the whole district contributed to the campaign. It's a very successful radiothon,” said Lorrie Bunko, the foundation’s executive director. “With the stories that were shared alone, it had a big impact.”

The radiothon featured guests who told personal stories of how important the Humboldt Hospital is to them and the region. Viral sensation Quick Dick McDick appeared on the morning of April 14.

“He was able to talk a lot about rural health care and the importance of it in many different aspects and residents throughout his area by Tuffnell, Sask. They access our health care facility too from time to time,” Bunko said. “Our hospital is a hub in the district.”

Bunko said the foundation is raising money for several pieces of equipment.

“The No. 1, of course, is the cardiac equipment campaign. We have another $168,000 to raise for that campaign.”

That equipment is expected to cost $350,000.

The foundation is also raising money for an urinalysis analyzer, which costs $25,000, another med cart for overflow, and other equipment to benefit the lab, emergency room, and the hospital’s inpatients.

While the radiothon may be over, the foundation is still raising money. Donations can be made to the foundation at 306-682-4450 or .
