A Prince Albert man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of 27-year-old Cody McAdam.

Judge Natasha Crooks sentenced Bryce Bird, 20, in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench on May 28.

Bird was arrested in March 2020 and charged with second-degree murder.

He pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in November 2020, but on May 25, 2021, Bird pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter.

A badly injured McAdam was found in an alley in the 200 Block of 12 Street East in Prince Albert on Feb. 9, 2019. McAdam was taken to a Saskatoon hospital where he died on Feb. 16, 2019.

Bird was given 1.5 credit for each of the 442 days he served in pretrial custody. This means 663 days will be taken off of his 10-year prison sentence.

Once Bird is released from prison he will have a 10-year prohibition on owning firearms. He was also ordered to submit his DNA to the National DNA Databank.
