A preliminary hearing will be held in Prince Albert Provincial Court for a Wahpeton Dakota Nation man to see if there’s enough evidence for him to stand trial on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and sexual assault.
Nathan Waditaka, 19, was arrested after a violent incident on the First Nation in December 2019.
According to Prince Albert RCMP, they were called to the Nation’s health centre after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted. Police identified Waditaka as the suspect and arrested him at a nearby residence.
The female victim was taken by ambulance to a Prince Albert hospital. The man – who was in the home when the minor was assaulted - had life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local clinic and pronounced deceased by EMS. The court has ordered a ban on publication on details that may identify the victims.
The charges against Waditaka haven’t been proven in court.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Feb. 8 in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
