Preliminary hearing for four accused of killing Sheena Billette delayed again

A preliminary hearing for four people accused of kidnapping and killing elementary school teacher Sheena Marie Billette, 28, of La Ronge in 2019 was delayed a third time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A preliminary hearing for four people accused of kidnapping and killing elementary school teacher Sheena Marie Billette, 28, of La Ronge in 2019 was delayed a third time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charlie Napthalie Charles, 26, Deborah Maggie McKenzie, 31, Telsa Jane McKenzie, 26, and Sharise Justice Sutherland-Kayseas, 26, are all charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and forcible confinement in the death of Billette.

Their preliminary hearing was scheduled to start in La Ronge Provincial Court in January 2021, but was rescheduled to April and then May-June and it is now set for August.

A passing motorist on Highway 102 found Billette’s body seven kilometres north of La Ronge at about 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2019.
