SASKATOON - A man is facing charges after evading police by speeding in Saskatoon.

On Sept. 18 at approximately 10:40 p.m. while leaving an unrelated call, officers noticed a suspicious vehicle that had previously been reported to have a stolen licence plate near 22nd Street West and Whitney Avenue. Officers attempted a high-risk traffic stop; however, the vehicle fled, evading police at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle continued to evade police until it came to a stop in an alley near Avenue H North before the driver began to flee on foot. At this time, a police service dog was deployed and was able to successfully assist in apprehending the suspect.

As a result, a 29-year-old man was arrested and faces charges relating to evading police, dangerous driving, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited from doing so, possession of ammunition while prohibited from doing so, and possession of stolen property under $5,000. The man was also found to be unlawfully at large on a Canada-wide warrant.

He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a dog bite.
