Update: Police arrest one suspect in Saskatoon stabbings

SASKATOON - Update: Sept. 29: A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection to stabbings that occurred on Sept. 18 and 23.

On Sept. 28, police observed a wanted suspect in the 1600 block of 22nd Street West. A perimeter was quickly set up around the residence and police were able to contact the suspect. At approximately 2:45 p.m., officers were able to get the suspect to surrender without further incident.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and has currently been charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, and failing to comply with a court order.

Update Sept. 24: The Saskatoon Police Service is releasing a photo of Dakota Douglas Halkett, who is wanted as a suspect in two stabbings that occurred in the past week.

On Sept. 18 at approximately 8:50 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Avenue T Â鶹ÊÓƵ for a report of an injured person. Initial information stated someone had been stabbed. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. 

Then, on Sept. 23 at approximately 11:55 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Avenue U Â鶹ÊÓƵ for a report of an injured person. 

Upon arrival, officers located a female suffering from injuries consistent with a stab wound; she was treated by paramedics and transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. 

Dakota Douglas Halkett is the suspect in both stabbings. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Halkett faces charges relating to aggravated assault, assault, and failure to comply with court-ordered conditions. 

The Saskatoon Police Service asks anyone with information on Halkett’s whereabouts to contact police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers. Police ask the public not to approach him. 

Original post Sept. 19: Police are investigating following a stabbing Wednesday morning in Saskatoon.

On Sept. 18 at approximately 8:50 a.m. police were called to the 100 block of Avenue T Â鶹ÊÓƵ for a report of an injured person. Initial information stated someone had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from injuries consistent with a stab wound. He was treated by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrival. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He is described as male, approximately 5'10", around 130 lbs., with short dark hair. The man had a BMX bike with him that was painted blue.

The Saskatoon Police Serious Assault Unit (SAU) is continuing to investigate.
