There was a spike in new dwelling permits in North Battleford in September, as overall building permits continue to be issued at a steady pace in the city this year.
A total of 17 permits for $1,991,800 were issued in September, bringing the overall number of permits issued for the year to 122 permits for $35,880,300. Leading the way in September was five new dwelling permits issued for $1,448,000.
That compared to nil in the new dwelling category in September 2009.
There was also one new industrial alteration issued for $100,000 and one new institutional alteration for $350,000. Those all compared to zero in each category during the same month in 2009.
Several other categories posted declines for the month, however, compared to September 2009. Four garage/carport permits were issued for $59,500, compared to six for $91,000 issued the year before. Three residential alterations were issued for $16,000 compared to five for $116,500 the year before. There were also no permits issued for condo units, commercial alterations and new industrial units. The year before, in September 2009, there had been one new condo unit permit issued for $680,000, five commercial alterations for $1,255,000 and one new industrial unit permit for $180,000.
One sign permit for $10,000 was issued and two removal/demolition permits were issued in September as well.
The 17 building permits issued represents a drop from the 21 issued in September 2009. Permit values were also down for the month from $2,397,500 to $1,991,800.
Still, the numbers add to the torrid pace the city is setting for the year in building permit values. The 122 permits issued for $35,880,300 compares to 125 permits issued for $18,673,650. New dwelling permits are way up for the year with 25 building permits issued for $6,207,000, compared to 10 issued for $2,489,000 for the same period in 2009.
The numbers for September were submitted by North Battleford building inspector Jerry Wintonyk to the City's municipal services committee Monday.
