Mayor Chris Odishaw of Battleford made a rare appearance at North Battleford city council to deliver funds for the Credit Union CUPlex.

Odishaw and several town councillors presented a cheque for $1.6 million to Mayor Ian Hamilton and the City. That money, earmarked for regional recreation in the Battlefords, will be put towards the CUPlex.

The $1.6 million represents the full amount to be raised through the town's annual recreation levy over a 10-year period. The commitment was no surprise, as Battleford town council officially gave its stamp of approval to the funding earlier this year.

Odishaw noted the "partnership" with the City of North Battleford on the project. He called the amount the "single largest commitment the town has ever made." He also called it "the single largest commitment the town has ever made to regional recreation."
