North Battleford thanks first responders in NB Comp incident

Statement issued by Mayor David Gillan following high school assault incident.

City Hall issued a statement Thursday regarding the incident at North Battleford Comp on Sept. 14.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Mayor David Gillan has extended gratitude to high school staff and to first responders for their handling of the incident Wednesday at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School.

Battlefords RCMP say they arrested a 16-year-old who was believed to be involved in the assault that occurred at North Battleford Comprehensive High School earlier that afternoon.

The full statement from Mayor Gillan is as follows:

"The city of North Battleford would like to extend gratitude to the administration and staff of North Battleford Comprehensive High School for recognizing an active threat and enacting their safety plan to protect the well-being of those at the school, in the surrounding area and keeping our children safe.

"We also want to express our sincere appreciation for all the emergency responders, who responded to this incident promptly and professionally. Your immediate response ensured the safety of all involved. The city understands that these situations can be scary, and for this reason, we share our deepest gratitude for the quick resolution to this crisis which helped ease the minds of our community."
