There are nuisance animals in the city of North Battleford but rats aren't among them, according to the fire chief.
Skunks are an issue and the bylaw enforcement department actively responds to complaints about those and other animals.
Fire Chief Pat MacIsaac was responding to a question from Councillor Grace Lang at Monday's municipal services meeting about what bylaw enforcement officials do about nuisance animals in the community that are on the loose, in response to several calls she has had about sightings of nuisance animals.
MacIsaac said bylaw enforcement does respond to reports and calls about nuisance animals, especially skunks during the springtime.
His department has been successful in trapping skunks. Muskrats have been less of an issue, MacIsaac said, but his department responds to those reports as well.
Rats, however, have not been an issue at all in the city. MacIsaac noted there have been no confirmed rat sightings anywhere in North Battleford.
MacIsaac said that if anyone in the city has any problems with nuisance animals, they can contact bylaw enforcement and they can "deal with the issue in some shape or form", he said.
