NIPAWIN — Nipawin council passed a resolution to move the accessible parking space located at the intersection of Centre Street and Second Avenue West to an area near the post office and United Church.

The accessible parking space is for any individuals wishing to access businesses or services in the area.

Jeff Hrynkiw, Nipawin’s land planning advisor and development officer, told council at the Jan. 10 meeting that this is following a review of the intersection.

“It was discovered the accessible parking space probably should be in an area that’s more convenient and a little bit safer than right near the intersection,” Hrynkiew said. “It will be basically right in front of the ramp for the post office.”

The design will include a sidewalk removal, creating a ramp up to the sidewalk the width of two spaces.

“There will be plenty of room for people with disabilities to get out of either side of the vehicle, they will have plenty of room so we feel it’s a good spot.”

Work is expected to be conducted during the spring and early summer months.
