A new trial date is expected to be set for an Onion Lake man charged with numerous weapons and drug-related offences.
The trial for Terrance Stonechild, 32, was supposed to run this week in Lloydminster Provincial Court but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The matter was brought before the court again on June 2 and adjourned to July 7.
Stonechild has been in custody since he was arrested December 2020. He is one of 32 people banished from Onion Lake Cree Nation as the community combats illegal drug and gang activity.
The banished individuals have 鈥渃ontravened and violated peace and good order in the territory of the Onion Lake Cree Nation, and thereby are banished,鈥 Okimaw Henry Lewis posted in a statement on OLCN鈥檚 website in September 2020. The OLCN leadership drove out suspected gang members and boarded up suspected meth houses.
OLCN declared a state of emergency in January 2020 after a string of gang-related violence and drug activity.
OLCN has three townships spanning 188,000 acres and is on the Saskatchewan-Alberta border. It is about 50 kilometres north of Lloydminster.
