N. B. man arrested after police in 2 provinces team up sentenced

Reagan Racette was arrested following a team effort by Maidstone RCMP, Kitscoty and Vermillion, Alta., RCMP, the Lloydminster Rescue Squad, as well as Cold Lake, Alta., RCMP Police Dog Services.

NORTH BATTLEFORD – A man wanted by police in two provinces was sentenced Monday to 180 days in jail.

Regan Racette, 38, was arrested after Maidstone RCMP responded to a break and enter in the R. M. of Wilton south of Lloydminster July 5.

According to police, a black car left the property and was last seen headed into Lloydminster. Another suspect was reported to be driving a side-by-side utility vehicle, which was found damaged and abandoned in a swamp in the R. M. of Wilton, and the suspect was on foot.

RCMP officers from Maidstone, Sask., Kitscoty and Vermillion, Alta., detachments secured the immediate area. The Lloydminster Rescue Squad was called in, as well as Cold Lake, Alta., and RCMP Police Dog Services to help locate the suspect. Three hours later Racette was arrested.

Racette was charged with break and enter, flight from police, and possession of stolen property.

Maidstone RCMP say that at the time of his arrest, Racette was wanted on outstanding warrants out of Cut Knife, Sask., and Kitscoty, Alta., RCMP detachments for separate investigations of break and enter, theft, and trespassing.

Police say the side-by-side utility trailer was reported stolen out of Vermillion, Alta.

A stay of proceedings was entered on charges of break and enter, driving while being pursued, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Racette was sentenced on charges of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm without a license, possession of stolen property obtained by crime, and three breach of conditions charges.

Racette was also given 12 months probation after he’s released and a one-year driving prohibition.
