‘Men at Work’ signs under fire at city council

Remember those signs at construction sites that state “men at work”? Those are not supposed to be posted anymore.

Remember those signs at construction sites that state “men at work”?

Those are not supposed to be posted anymore. With equal-opportunity workforces and with more women earning a living in the construction industry, you’re more likely to see signs that say “workers present.”

But Councillor Kelli Hawtin noticed “men at work” signs up as North Battleford city employees were doing tree-trimming, and raised the issue at council Monday.

“We’ve talked about this as well over the years,” said Hawtin. “That’s sort of not terminology we should have within our city organization. We have ‘workers present.’” Hawtin also said she was under the impression the ‘men at work’ signs were out of circulation.

City Manager Randy Patrick agreed with Hawtin, calling it “a pet peeve of mine.’ He pledged to see what they would do to replace the signs.

“They are a problem and they should not be available anymore.”
