MELFORT — Melfort’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony will be a modified service with a maximum of 60 people inside the Legion and the remainder viewing through live stream.

“On the 11th we’re still not back to our full schedule where we used to have it in the high school auditorium at MUCC, which could seat 600 or 700,” said Jim Graham, president of the Royal Canadian Legion Melfort Branch #30.

“We certainly don’t want to contribute to any spreading of COVID, so within our space we like to keep everyone spread out and following all the protocols and just trying to observe things.”

This 20021 service will begin at Memorial Gardens for Legion members around 9:45 a.m. for the laying of wreaths and lowering of the flag. After that, members will head inside the Legion Hall where there will be space for 60 attendees for the ceremony.

Attendees who wish to attend in-person are asked to call the Legion at 306-752-2713 or Graham at 306-921-4292 to ensure space can be made. The service is planned to begin at about 10:30 a.m.

For those who aren’t attending in-person, they may view the ceremony through the .

For those who can’t attend in either capacity, Graham said there’s other things they can do, such as purchasing a wreath from the Legion, which will be laid that morning.

“We would be even welcome if people want to come into a Legion a different time around Remembrance Day we can give a little tour. We even have pictures of about 850 different veterans from this area in the Legion, and lots of memorabilia on the wall and in our showcases.”
