On Dec. 3, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP attended to an apartment complex located on 7th Avenue West in Meadow Lake to arrest an adult male who had outstanding warrants for his arrest on serious charges.

Upon arrival at the apartment complex, police attempted to contact the male. The male locked the doors of the room he was occupying, refused to exit and advised police he was in possession of a firearm. The male continued to retreat further into the apartment complex and allegedly broke into several rooms to evade police.

Meadow Lake RCMP immediately secured the area surrounding the apartment complex with the assistance of Loon Lake and Green Lake RCMP Detachments. Police evacuated the occupants of the other apartments and brought them to a safe location.

Efforts to negotiate with the male by police were ongoing. The Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) was also called to assist with the investigation.

After ERT arrived, police were able to determine the male had barricaded himself in a room in the apartment complex. Police continued negotiations with the male to have him safely apprehended. The Saskatchewan RCMP ERT gained entry into the room and the male was safely taken into custody. Police conducted a thorough search of the apartment complex and did not locate any firearms.

As a result of this investigation, 40-year-old David McKay of Meadow Lake, has been charged with the following: resist arrest; two counts of break and enter; break and enter; two counts of uttering threats; and unlawfully at large.

David McKay has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Meadow Lake on Monday, Dec. 7.
