Man facing charges after swinging golf club in threatening manner

Officers were able to arrest the suspect after some resistance.

SASKATOON - One man is facing charges relating to an alleged assault Sunday morning in Saskatoon.

On Aug. 11, at approximately 11:30 a.m. police were called to the 500 block of Walmer Road for a report of a male swinging a golf club confronting the complainant. While police were checking the area, another call came in from the 100 block of 20th Street West that a male was intimidating people with a golf club.

Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect in an altercation with a male victim; the suspect then noticed police and began to flee on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued before officers caught up with the suspect. Officers were then able to arrest him after some resistance.

When police investigated, the man was also found to be in possession of eight identity documents not belonging to him.

As a result, a 39-year-old man is facing charges relating to assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer, and possession of identity documents of another person.
