Show me the money! Cheryl Gantefoer, BUHF board chair, makes the draw for the grand prize of $100,000, which Bill Schell of North Battleford was lucky enough to win. Vice chair Jerry Wintonyk and executive director Claudette McGuire lent their expert ballot mixing skills to the event.

Supporting the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation can be a lucrative venture, as was demonstrated in the annual Cash Lottery draw, Nov. 3.

Bill Schell of North Battleford will have to thank Cheryl Gantefoer, chair of BUHF's board of directors, for digging deep into the drum and pulling out his name for the $100,000 grand prize.

The cheque was presented to Schell Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Battlefords Union Hospital lobby.

Forty prizes of $1,000 were also handed out, with the draws being made by volunteers, hospital employees and the general public. Hopefully my editor won't fire me for not drawing her name!

Linda Stevens of North Battleford must be carrying a horseshoe in her purse, because her name was drawn twice.

Long-time foundation volunteer Agnes Miller was at the hospital for an appointment, when BUHF executive director Claudette McGuire spotted her and asked her to come draw a name.

Miller walked up to the drum somewhat reluctantly, but no doubt she's happy she did, as she managed to pull her own name!

"I just came for an appointment and made myself $1,000 doing it," she exclaimed.

A total of 14,000 tickets were sold, with the proceeds going towards an ultrasound for medical imaging.

A separate draw for volunteers was also held, with Ethel Zurewell winning the coffee brewer donated by Phil and Joan Lefevre, who own the two Tim Hortons in North Battleford.

Three prizes were already handed out; the $20,000 early bird, the $10,000 previous purchaser and the $10,000 sweet 16.
